Being a stay-at-home mom is a full-time job, but let’s face it—sometimes, it doesn’t feel like enough.
A couple of months ago, I was juggling the chaos of toddler tantrums, endless snack requests, and trying to find time for myself. I was also wondering how else I could contribute to my family. I remember feeling so stuck. I didn’t want to give up being home with my kids, but I also wanted to help.
That’s when a random moment of inspiration struck.
Years ago, I had created a simple t-shirt design on Canva. It was for moms like me—funny, relatable, and full of the humor that keeps us going when life gets messy. I thought, What if I could turn that little idea into something real?
Starting Idle Threads Co.
In the beginning, I had no idea what I was doing(I still don't). I’d never run a business before, and the thought of starting one was overwhelming. But I kept coming back to that simple idea: Make shirts I’d actually want to wear.
I spent one crazy week creating over 100 t-shirt designs. My inspiration came from my life—being an introverted mom, loving nerdy hobbies, and finding humor in the little parenting moments no one talks about. Designs like “Born to Dilly Dally” or “I told my toddler they can't eat the color purple” (a tribute to the chaos of raising toddlers) poured out of me.
I knew I wasn’t creating for the masses—I was creating for people like me. Moms who need a laugh. Introverts who want to feel cozy and cute. Nerds who love a clever pun.
What Keeps Me Going
This business isn’t perfect. I’ve made mistakes, Googled way too many things, and leaned heavily on ChatGPT for advice (yep, even this blog post was co-written with AI!). But every time I get feedback from someone who gets it, it reminds me why I started.
Idle Threads Co. isn’t just about t-shirts—it’s about helping people feel seen. It’s about moms who laugh at their own chaos, introverts who want subtle style, and hobbyists who finally feel represented.
What’s Next for Idle Threads Co.
As my kids grow and life shifts, so will this business. But for now, I’m embracing the messy, unpredictable balance of parenting and entrepreneurship.
If you’re a mom, an introvert, or someone who just wants a shirt that feels like you, check out my designs. I hope you find something that makes you laugh, feel cozy, or just feel a little more seen.
